ROTARY READERS

In partnership with Skinner Magnet Center, volunteers spend time reading one-on-one or in small groups with first, second, and third-grade students who benefit from extra support. This program strengthens literacy, boosts student confidence, and fosters cross-generational relationships.

A short commitment during the school year can make a big difference. Training is provided — all you need is your voice and your heart.

You do not have to be a Rotarian to volunteer for this program. You will have to submit to the OPS Volunteer Process and will then be assigned a student.

Readers spend 30 minutes with a student chosen by the teacher for the entire school year on a weekly basis. Some readers choose to take on multiple students as long as they are making the trip. The student reads to the adult with assistance. The student brings their own book, but there are also flash cards, iPads or library books available.
