Tisha B’Av, the ninth day of the Hebrew month of Av, is a day of mourning for the tragedies that have befallen the Jewish people throughout history, as well as for the pain and brokenness in our own lives. In addition, this day of mourning is deeply personal for many of us who have lost a loved one recently. As part of our observance of Tisha B’Av, we invite those grieving in our community to light a candle in their memory during the service. Together, we will mourn for them, and then begin to move to the promise of hope and renewal that the coming High Holiday season offers.
