Planned Parenthood Lobby Day While there isn't a specific abortion bill on the table, every day is a great day to remind our state senators that we value reproductive rights and to advocate for essential healthcare. The morning will start with training at the Wick Alumni Center and will be followed by lobbying at the Capitol Building. Advocacy is a Jewish value. Opposition to abortion bans is in line with the URJ, the Religious Action Center, and congregations from across the country engaging in this type of activism. According to the URJ, “The Reform Movement's positions on reproductive rights are grounded in the core belief that each person should have agency and autonomy over their own bodies. Our advocacy around abortion access is inspired by the Jewish value of kavod ha’briyot, respect for individual dignity.” Reform congregations across the country are still doing everything they can -- voting, speaking, lobbying, raising funds, and organizing a variety of responses since the reversal of Roe vs. Wade and Temple Israel will always continue to prioritize having our voices heard in the name of reproductive rights. You can RSVP directly with Planned Parenthood, but we also ask that you please let Wendy Hamilton, Co-chair of our Reproductive Rights Committee, know if you plan on attending! We'd love to have a strong showing from our congregation! |
