Adults Civil Rights Trip 2025
Temple Israel Adult Civil Rights Trip
April 23-27, 2025
Together, we will travel to Memphis, Birmingham, Montgomery, Selma, and Atlanta where we will have the opportunity to take a deep dive into the history of slavery, racism, and the civil rights movement in America. We will be partnering with Tzedek America as our tour provider, as well as participants from Congregation Shalom, a Reform synagogue, in Milwaukee on this trip.
Register to attend here by August 15.
Important Details:
- The cost of this trip will be $2400 for a double room and $2800 if you want a single room. Unfortunately, we do not have grant or scholarship money available to subsidize the cost of this trip.
- This cost includes admission fees, programming fees, transportation between destinations, and gratuity.
- The cost does not include travel down to our destination or the return trip back to Omaha. You will be given a meeting point & time for arrival. At the end of the trip, the bus will drop our group off at the Atlanta airport. You will need to book your arrival and departure travel on your own.
- This cost covers breakfast and one additional meal per day. You will need to bring money for the last meal of the day.
- During the trip, we will be doing a mixture of walking and riding the bus between destinations. If you have mobility challenges, Tzedek America will be happy to work with us to ensure that more transportation is provided in lieu of longer walking intervals (I.e. driving instead of walking over the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma). Please be in touch if you’d like to speak in more depth about potential opportunities for accommodations.
- We will be riding on a luxury passenger coach during our travels, which has comfortable seats, charging stations, and a bathroom. We will use the bus both to get to and from our daily stops, as well as for slightly longer durations as we move between cities. The longest bus ride will be approximately 4 hours but will be broken up with a stop for dinner at a restaurant on the way to Birmingham.
- Registration is due by August 15. You can pay the total upfront or set up a payment plan with the first payment made that day. All remaining payments will need to be completed by February 3. These payments will need to be either E-Check or Credit Card. If you'd like to drop off a physical check, please bring that into the Temple Israel office and we will be happy to accommodate that.
- We will have a group rate if you are interested in coming into town the evening before the trip. This additional cost will be yours to cover.
- A final itinerary will be available about 30 days before the trip. We have a sample itinerary here, but it is subject to changes.
- Cancelation before February 12 will result in a minimum of 50% refund and will be handled on a case-by-case basis. This policy is guided by the payment schedule outlined by our tour provider. In addition, we invite you to look into options for 3rd party travel insurance which may be able to offer more full reimbursement coverage.
- Once attendees are decided, we will set a handful of meetings before the trip for group bonding, trip updates and education. These dates are TBD.
- We encourage anyone interested in the Civil Rights Trip to also participate in our Building Racial Stamina Cohort. Find more information here.
